The University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab Presents
2nd Annual Summer Jazz Camp July 8-13, 2012



The UCO Jazz Studies Division is excited to present our annual summer jazz camp experience open to all instrumentalists age 14 and up this July 8-13, 2012. The camp will be an immersive musical experience for everyone involved and provide the opportunity to learn from the respected UCO Jazz Faculty and a special guest artist to be announced soon! Our workshop is designed to offer an excellent learning experience for beginning jazz improvisers, intermediate experience levels, and advanced players & educators alike. The workshop schedule for the week will be as follows:

Sunday, July 8 (UCO Jazz Lab)
12:00-5:00PM Dorm room check-in if applicable

5:00-10:00PM Orientation, placement auditions, and short theory test. * DINNER provided by Hideaway Pizza!

 

** Throughout the week, transportation will be provided as needed for students to travel between the dorm rooms, the School of Music Building, and the UCO Jazz Lab. Students under the age of 18 staying in the dorm rooms will be supervised by our adult graduate jazz majors assisting with the camp. It is NOT necessary to stay in the dorms, but is the most affordable option for most out of town participants. Rates start at only $30 per night.

 

Monday-Thursday, July 9-12 (UCO Jazz Lab & School of Music Building)

7:30-8:50 BREAKFAST on your own (meal plans available on campus, or many other options)

9:00-9:55 Jazz Improvisation Class (Beginning, Intermediate, & Experienced Sections)

10:00-10:55 Jazz Theory & Analysis (Beginning, Intermediate, & Experienced Sections)

11:00-12:00 Cool Audio/Video Presentations on the History of American Jazz Music (One Large Section)

12:00-12:50 LUNCH on your own (many restaurants are within easy walking distance, or meal plan)

1:00 - 3:00 Ensemble Rehearsals (many groups will be formed based on ability level and instrumentation)

3:00 - 3:30 Afternoon Break

3:30 - 5:00 Masterclass Sessions (group sessions for each specific instrument)

5:00 - 6:30 DINNER on your own (many restaurants are within easy walking distance, or meal plan)

6:30 - 9:30 Student Jam Sessions and evening rehearsals as needed

9:30 - 10:00 Transportation to the dorm rooms as needed

Friday, July 13 (UCO Jazz Lab & School of Music Building)

7:30-8:50 BREAKFAST on your own

9:00-9:55 Final Jazz Improvisation Classes

10:00-10:55 Final Jazz Theory & Analysis Classes

11:00-12:00 Final Jazz History Presentation

12:00-12:50 * LUNCH PROVIDED by HIDEAWAY PIZZA

1:00 - 3:00 Final Student Ensemble Rehearsals

3:00 - 4:00 Afternoon Break - check out of dorm rooms if necessary and prepare for concert

4:00 - 7:00 STUDENT CONCERT featuring all ensembles. Every student will be mailed a professionally recorded CD of the concert event.

7:00 - 8:00 BREAK

8:00 - 10:30 BRIAN GORRELL & JAZZ COMPANY CONCERT - selected students will be invited to sit in.
