Join the award-winning UCO Jazz faculty for a jam-packed week designed to get YOU playing jazz! Participate daily in combos, master classes, improv and theory sessions, jazz history presentations, big band reading sessions and jam sessions in a fun and relaxed environment.

• Open to instrumentalists age 14+

• Optional on-campus housing available

UCO JAZZ CAMP SCHEDULE - 2022

SUNDAY, June 26th

3:00 – 4:00 pm Housing check-in (if applicable) at the Quad

4:30 pm Check-in begins for placement auditions – School of Music Building

5:00 – 7:00 pm Placement auditions held – participants may leave after audition

5:00 – 7:00 pm Informal Jazz concert featuring Jazz Camp Staff (MUS 104)

 

MONDAY, June 27th – THURSDAY, June 30

7:30 – 8:50 am BREAKFAST on your own

8:30 am Audition results posted – School of Music

9:00 – 9:50 am Jazz Theory Class (General & Experienced Sections) – School of Music

10:00 – 10:50 am Jazz Improvisation Class (Beginning, Intermediate & Experienced Sections) – School of Music

11:00 – 12:00 pm Jazz History Presentation – School of Music

12:00 – 12:55 pm LUNCH (bring sack lunch each day)

1:00 – 3:00 pm Combo Rehearsals (multiple groups will be formed) – School of Music

3:00 - 3:30 pm Afternoon Break (snacks will be provided)

3:30 – 5:00 pm Masterclass Sessions (group sessions for each specific instrument) – School of Music

5:00 – 6:30 pm DINNER on your own

6:30 – 9:00 pm Student Big Band Reading Sessions & Jam Sessions (School of Music)

9:00 pm END OF DAY

 

FRIDAY, July 1

7:30 – 8:50 am BREAKFAST on your own

8:30 – 9:00 am HOUSING CHECK-OUT (if applicable) – bring room keys and all belongings to School of

Music to officially check out of housing (belongings will be stored in SOM classroom)

9:00 – 9:50 am Final Jazz Theory Classes – School of Music

10:00 – 10:50 am Final Jazz Improvisation Classes - School of Music

11:00 – 12:00 pm Final Jazz History Presentation – School of Music

12:00 – 12:55 pm LUNCH – Individual box lunch provided (from Jimmy Johns or similar) – School of Music

1:00 – 2:30 pm Final Student Combo Rehearsals – School of Music

2:30 - 3:30 pm Afternoon Break – prepare for concert

3:30 – 7:00 pm STUDENT CONCERT – UCO Jazz Lab (limited seating // virtual stream)

7:00 – 8pm Evening Break

8pm – 10pm Brian Gorrell and Jazz Company – UCO Jazz Lab 

10pm Camp is officially concluded

 

** Students under the age of 18 will be supervised by responsible adult faculty/staff. Please note: Participants are required to abide by all University policies regarding COVID-19.
